We have all experienced the odd hiccup and thought we weren't good enough.
We understand, we have learnt from these experiences and would like to share some of these (and the solutions!!!) with you...
Bernie started riding when she was 11 at a riding school in Oxfordshire, which meant a 5 mile cycle there each day after school and at weekends. She used to muckout for rides.
Later, she found a lovely hanoverian x TB chestnut mare. They enjoyed riding club activities together and Keighley was sold to friends two years later. (For any of you in the showing world, Keighley foaled a succesful working hunter called Blades Thicket - currently owned and competed by Sally-Ann Barton.)
Bernie was then kept busy being Bryony's "unpaid show groom"!!! Until she was offered a 14hh palomino mare called April in 1999, they had fabolous fun together, hacking along the ridgeway chaperoning Bryony on Munchkin.
Now, following the sad loss of April after a fabulous 8 years together, Bernie is kept busy over-seeing all aspects of the business.
Bernie organises the Heavy horse show at the Uffington White horse show. (The Heavy horse show is usually on the August Bank holiday Sunday) ... come along ... they are AMAZING!!!
Allan's only riding experience was galloping on a racetrack as a young boy, (in a
lesson with a local riding instructor) He thought of himself as the new Lester
Piggott!!!
Allan is in charge of all the field maintenance, making improvements to the Yard and keeping
everything in tip top condition.
Although, he does get in the saddle from time to time - pictured left on Prince -
where he endured a 3 hour hack!!!
Born in 1992, Bryony first sat on a horse (Keighly) at 18 months old. Her Parents
then bought her a pony when she was 2 years old - the pony (called Munchkin)
was also two. Bernie broke in and rode away Munchkin when he was 3 1/2.
Bryony rode Munckin frequently and graduated off the lead rein at the age of 4,
where she rode Munchkin in the school and on the lead out hacking. They went
on to compete in LR showing, winning the first class they entered!!!
She then competed in her first 2'3 SJ class on Munchkin at the age of 6.
Bryony started hacking out on the ridgeway and competing in hunter trials aged 7.
They continued to have fun until Munchkin was loaned out to a local riding school
when the pair were both 10.
Bryony's parents bought a very fast 17 year old pony for her to progress with.
In the first 6 months Bryony spent more time off Mickey mouse than she did on
him!!!
Suddenly they clicked and where winning ODE/SJ/DR and showing.
When Bryony was 11, Allan and Bernie bought her a 13.1 jumping pony to run
alongside Mickey mouse.
He napped, reared and most people said he was dangerous. But Bryony
perservered and re-schooled Russian to compete in Hunter trials, sponsored rides
and BSJA. He qualified Blue chip champs 2005, 128/138 scope, PSOA small ponies
and gained all his BNOV double clears by the time he was loaned out and later sold
in the summer 2005.
At present Bryony's qualifications are BHS stage 1 and BHS riding & Road Safety, she is also a
qualified first aider. She is currently training for her BHS stage 2 exam and is also studying for
a Diploma in Equine Science.
Bryony is Home schooled which means she can spend most of her time at the Yard with
the Ponies, whilst studying and training for her exams.
Bryony's main focus is BSJA, although she enjoys producing Ponies to succeed in all spheres
and is very likely to be spotted on the hunting field during the season!
